Associated Students, Inc California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo ASSOCIATED STUDENTS IN PLANNING - BYLAWSArticle I. PreambleWe, as students of the City and Regional Planning Department at California Polytechnic State University, propose through this student organization to further the quest for scholastic and professional awareness, involvement and excellence in our field. It is the intent of this organization to abide by pertinent State, University, and ASI regulations.Article II. PurposeThe purpose of this chapter shall be:Section A. To foster and promote fellowship, cooperation, and a spirit of unity between students of City and Regional Planning and practitioners by providing means of communication between members of this chapter and members of the sponsoring professional chapter, and other student chapters. Section B. To represent the students of the City and Regional Planning Department collectively in all matters relative to the facility and administration of the school and university, the profession, and other campus organizations. Section C. To strengthen both the student and public understanding of the present and future potential scope of City and Regional Planning. Article III. IdentificationSection A.The name of this organization shall be Associated Students in Planning, hereafter referred to as the Chapter or ASP. Section B. The Chapter is affiliated with the American Planning Association. Article IV. MembershipSection A.All registered students, including graduate students, who are regularly enrolled in the City and Regional Planning Department are eligible for active membership. Only active members may participate in meetings, be elected to office, vote, debate or represent the organization. Section B. Associate members may include registered students, faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the sponsoring chapter. Associate members may attend whatever activities the organization may designate, but they may not vote, debate, hold office, or represent the organization. Section C. Honorary members shall be persons whom through their outstanding aide to the Chapter, and by vote of the Board of Directors, will be entitled to all privileges reserved for active members. These persons shall be exempt from annual membership dues. Honorary membership shall not exceed 10% of the active membership. Section D. There may be no membership discrimination on the basis of race, sex, religion, national origin, or sexual preference. Section E. This organization or any of its members shall not conspire to commit any act which causes or is likely to cause, bodily danger or physical or emotional harm to any member of the campus community. Article VI. MeetingsSection A.The Chapter shall hold general meetings at least once a month, preferably every other week, for consistency. Section B. The Board shall hold a Board meeting at least once a month, preferably once a week, to help in the planning of club activities.
Sturgis� Rules of Order shall be referred to for all parliamentary procedures not covered by this code. Section D. A quorum for this Chapter shall be defined as two-thirds of the active membership, with a least one officer present. Article VII. CommitteesSection A.A committee is designated as a small group of active members of this chapter, chosen to perform some special task. Section B. The Board shall form special committees when necessary. Article VIII. FinancesSection A.The annual dues shall be specified by the Board, payable to the same. Section B. The Chapter�s Treasurer shall handle the collecting of all annual dues, and with the approval of the Board, has the authority to expend club funds. Section C. Funds must be administered through the ASI account service and within ASI policies and procedures. Article IX. Standing RulesSection A. Purpose
Article X. AdvisorSection A.The chapter shall select, each year, a member of the faculty who is willing to serve as faculty advisor. The Advisor shall be a member of the teaching or administrative faculty or staff who shall be approved in advance by his/her respective Department Head and school Dean. Article XI. AmendmentsSection A.These codes may be amended by two-thirds vote of the active members, provided the amendment shall have been proposed at least one meeting previous to the time of voting. Such amendments shall conform to the rules governing student chapters. Section B. Amendments must be approved by the Codes and Bylaws Committee, Board, and the University before becoming effective. Article XII. ConflictSection A.These bylaws shall be in accordance with the ASI Bylaws and Codes, and the policies of the University. |
